2014

Well the kids and I rang in the new year at my brother's house. Family and friends were there but Joe was unable to be there because of work. I wish I could've been by his side for a New Years kiss at midnight.

Here's to a healthy and happy 2014.

Resolutions

I always make resolutions with good intentions, but usually never follow through.  I need to change that.  My goals for 2014 are:
1.  Run a 5K with Joe.
2.  Save more money.
3.  Cook/Eat healthier.
4.  Read 30 books.
5.  Keep up with this blog.
6.  Spend more time with my family.
7.  Expand my knitting knowledge.
I'll add more to the list if I think of things.  This is a good list so far.

Adding a blog to reference to for healthier eating.  Wanting to cook more "from scratch" to save money and be healthier.   100 Days of Real Food

Looking back on 2013

I can't believe this year is almost over.  It seems like just last week we were ringing in 2013 and now there's just a week left.  Ever since I had kids, time has starting going by faster and faster with each passing year.  Everyone tells me it gets worse.  I can't imagine time going by any quicker.

LJ will be turning 8 in a few weeks.  My baby is not a baby anymore.  Thankfully he still enjoys snuggling with me on the couch and he's still my little man.  I hope that never changes.  He asked last  week to change his carseat over from a 5-point harness to a booster.  Up until now he's liked the harness because it made him feel secure, but he was ready for the change.  He's only a few pounds from the max weight anyways, so we converted it.  He's doing well in school this year.  He's doing great with addition and learning subtraction as well as double digit subtraction (this one is a bit hard for him when it involves borrowing from the tens)  He constantly talks about Barack Obama and likes to learn Social Studies and Science stuff.  And he continues to enjoy reading.  Hoping by this summer, we can have him reading short chapter books.  He also joined Cub Scouts this year.  He came home from school very excited about the informational meeting, so we went to check it out.  I opted for the troop that meets on Wednesdays.  I'm glad I did.  His Scout leader is Chris McCord.  Chris is great with the Scouts.  At last week's meeting, the scouts were presented with their awards and badges for the year.  LJ got his Bobcat badge and his Fishing belt loop.  He is really enjoying Cub Scouts and I'm glad he's found something to be involved in.

Trinity just turned 12 a few months ago.  I'm about to have two teens!  I feel old.  She's in 7th grade and she made majorettes this year.  She continues with the flute in band and she's doing well with it.  She's already said she wasn't continuing in band when she goes to high school.  She's my little fashionista and she won't be caught wearing the marching band uniforms they wear in high school.  Silly girl.  The high school bands are awesome!  And speaking of fashionista, she's really into makeup and fashion.  She spends an hour in the morning getting ready in front of the mirror and then rushes to pack a lunch and grab breakfast before leaving for school.  She's into the new styles and trends.  She didn't play soccer this year, but regrets it.  She plans to play next year.

Alyssa turned 14 this year.  8th grade...high school next year!  WHAT?!?!  She has turned into a shy, reserved girl.  She used to be so outgoing.  Being an introvert myself, I hate that for her.  I know it makes things difficult in life.  She has really found a knack for drawing.  She is awesome.  She can look at a picture and re-create it almost identical to the original.  I remember enjoying art when I was about her age and I wish I'd stuck with it.  I hope she does.  She has a real talent for it.  She joined Chorus at school this year too.  She joined to get out of gym, but I think she's really enjoying it.  She loves music (you hardly ever see her without her iPhone or iPod and her headphones plugged in her ears).  She also played soccer for the rec.  It may be her last year playing because of her age.  I need to look into that.  She got on a really good team and they placed 1st!  It was an intense season and the games were action packed the entire hour.  --- She's still wanting to move in with her dad.  This really breaks my heart.  I want her happy, but I don't want her to leave me.  Maybe it's selfish, but I gave up so much to raise her and give her things she needed or wanted when he didn't.  I could type an entire novel about my anger and frustration about the entire situation but I'm trying to remind myself to "let go and let God".  I know I have to leave it up to God and whatever is meant to happen, will happen.  It's just hard to see my baby wanting to leave home.

Joe and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary this year.  9 years.  I've put up with him for a long time.  Though he can say the same thing.  I know I'm not easy to deal with sometimes.  We've definitely had our trials, but I'm glad we've made it this far.  He loves me--bad moods and all.  We celebrated our anniversary with a trip to Helen, GA.  We rented a cute little cabin and got our fair share of wine and hot tub.  We even saw a little (and by little I mean itty bitty see it in the air but it melts as soon as it touches something little) snow.  I was hoping to wake up to snow covering the ground one morning, but it didn't happen.  We really enjoyed the trip.

Joe started running in an attempt to lose some weight and get in shape.  He started out with the C25K app and then quickly made it through and signed up for his first 5K race.  He's done several now and even placed 1st in his age group at the Depot Dash in Thomson.  His last race for the Duck Dash in Atlanta.  Duck as in Duck Dynasty.  The runners all wore beards!  For Christmas, I made him a plaque to display his running bibs and medals.  I'm proud of him and maybe I'll get my butt out there and get to running myself.  Goodness knows I need to get in shape.

As I look back on this year, I am thankful for every moment.  Not all were good, but all were necessary in the path God has in store for me.

New Year, New Blog

I'm starting a new blog and my hope is to keep it up to date so that at the end of the year I can look back and reflect on things that happened through the year.  There are so many moments in time that I forget and I don't want to forget.
